IMessages are texts, photos, or videos that you send to another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac over Wi-Fi or cellular-data networks. These messages are always encrypted and appear in blue text bubbles. To turn iMessage on or off, go to Settings Messages. The problem is that sometimes the iMessage isn't delivered and my iPhone sends it automatically as an sms (= fee!!). I have enabled the option in the settings to do so, so that's the normal behaviour. Sending SMS messages automatically via when WiFi or cell data is unavailable will now be disabled. This will only work for existing conversations with other Messages users. Conversations with Android, other non-Messages users, or starting a new conversation with other Messages users will default to SMS and will not be blocked by this feature.

Want to schedule SMS text messages to send at a specific time? Apple’s iPhone doesn’t include the feature to schedule text messages and have them sent automatically. There are ways that users who jailbreak their iPhones can do it, but jailbreaking comes with its own risks. It’s also a lot to do just to schedule text messages.

You could send a reminder or alarm to let you know when to send the message, but that’s a lot of work too. Thanks to third-party apps there are ways to schedule text messages on your iPhone and have them sent at a specified time.

How to Schedule Text Messages on your iPhone

Autotext app

The Autotext app lets you schedule and send text messages with no prompts or reminders. You can build your own groups and schedule texts to send to the group as well. It will send a message even if your phone is off, and you can also send text messages to yourself as reminders.

After downloading the app, all you have to do is write and schedule. Write your messages like you would any other time, making sure to add recipients. Next you want to set what time you want the message to send and whether it should send again.

Delayd app

Delayd is another app that lets you schedule a text message. It will send messages automatically, instead of like some other apps that instead prompt you to send a text message when it is time.

You need to download the app and, to schedule texts, set the date and time it should be sent. That’s all. When your message is sent, the Delayd app will notify you. That way you know if there was any problems and it wasn’t sent.

Its main screen includes tabs for Scheduled, Sent and Recurring messages. That way you can keep tabs on what’s going on when you are scheduling multiple text messages. That’s not all. The app also lets you automatically schedule emails, Facebook status updates and tweets on Twitter.

There is a catch. Apple restricts scheduling text messages, so Delayd uses a workaround. Recipients do not see your phone number or email address so they can’t text you back.

Automatically

Delayd uses its own servers, which also means you pay for credits to schedule and send texts. If you want 50 credits you pay 99 cents USD. Up to 500 credits costs about $3.99 USD.

Jailbroken phones

If you have a jailbroken phone, you have other options including Programmable SMS. It is a Cydia tweak that lets you schedule text messages on your iPhone using Ryan Petrich’s Activator.

You must install free application software called Cydia before proceeding, then you have to add BigBoss Repo Source on Cydia. Once you are ready to proceed, follow these steps.

Step 1: Enter the BigBoss repo and install Programmable SMS.

Step 2: Launch Settings>Programmable SMS>Enable.

Step 3: Tap on SMS Activator.

Step 4: Write a text message and add a contact

Step 5: Turn on Auto-Disable before you tap on Save.

Now you have to open the Activator app.

Step 6: Go to Anywhere>Build>Scheduled.

Step 7: Schedule your date and time.

Step 8: Go back to Activator’s main page to choose the time you set up and select the text message you created earlier.

Text message scheduling lets you type a message now, and have it automatically sent at the set time. Unlike email, which is effortless, message scheduling is not as straightforward. This is because there is no inbuilt support from Apple. However, a few options exist to get things done. They have their caveats and drawbacks. But let’s learn how to schedule text messages on your iPhone.

How to Schedule Text Messages on iPhone Using Scheduled App

How does this app work?

    • Auto Send: You can choose a premium plan and send scheduled text messages automatically using a virtual number. The Scheduled app uses an SMS gateway for this. The receiver can reply to this virtual number, and you can read it inside the Scheduled app. The plan starts at $3.99 per month. You get credits, and using these you can send automatically scheduled text messages from your iPhone.
    • Schedule Messages: iOS has restrictions. Thus this or any app can not send scheduled text messages. What this app will do, is let you type the message, add the sender, and set the reminder. When the time comes, you only have to hit send. So, yes, it is not automatic text message scheduling, but it is certainly helpful.
  1. Download the Scheduled app for free from the App Store. Sign Up using your phone number. Give the app access to contacts and notifications. Without these permissions, it will not be of much help.
  2. Tap on CREATE MESSAGE.
  3. Then Tap on To: and choose one or multiple contacts. Tap Done.
  4. Under Your message, type the desired message. Optionally, tap on the tiny square icon to select a template.
  5. Tap on Schedule date and set the preferred date and time. Make sure to choose AM and PM correctly. Tap anywhere else to exit this selection screen. (Send automatically tab here, requires a premium plan.)
  6. Tap on SCHEDULE MESSAGE.
  7. When the time comes, the app will send you a notification. Tap on it and then hit Send from the upper-right. The messages app screen will open. The contact number and message text will already be written. All you need to do is hit the arrow to send the message.

Using this app, you can schedule not only texts, but even calls and messages for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Slack, and more. For this, tap on All from the top row and choose the desired service.

How to Schedule Text Messages With the Shortcuts App

Before You Begin:

    • Make sure Allow Untrusted Shortcuts is enabled from the Settings app → Shortcuts.
    • This method to schedule text messages works only if the iPhone screen is unlocked and on the Shortcuts app.

Sending Sms Using Gmail Account

  1. Download and add Send Delayed Text shortcut. For this, tap on this link. Next, tap on Add Untrusted Shortcut.
  2. In the Shortcuts app, tap on My Shortcuts and find this shortcut. Tap on the more.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, and under MESSAGES, tap on Allow AccessOK. Tap Done.
  4. Now, tap on the shortcut. Tap on the desired contact.
  5. Type the desired text message and tap OK.
  6. Set the preferred time and tap OK.
  7. Leave the Shortcuts app open and screen unlocked. The text message has been scheduled. It will be sent automatically on the set time.

In Which Situations the Above Method is Helpful?

Due to the limitation of keeping the screen unlocked and on the Shortcuts app, it hinders the iPhone usage. But suppose you have to sleep early, and you do not want to miss sending the text for the new year, birthday, or anniversary.

In such cases, open the Settings appDisplay & BrightnessAuto-LockNever. Now, follow the above steps to schedule the text message. Finally, put your phone into the charging mode.

Another similar shortcut that you can use is Delayed Time iMessage.

In case you do not want to use this app, you can use the Reminders app on your iPhone. You may also ask Siri something like ‘Remind me to text Donald at 9:30 PM today.’

Signing off….

This is how you can schedule text messages on the iPhone. If you have just switched from Android, you might find it inconvenient as the green team already has excellent inbuilt message scheduling.
